The Genealogical Society
The Central Iowa Genealogical Society was organized in April, 1965 with the primary aim to help others in their family research. The Genealogical Society collects genealogical materials. The collection has grown to over a thousand books.
The collection is currently housed in the Historical Society Museum. The collection covers published family histories, county histories, census, cemetery records, ships' passenger lists and Genealogical Societies publications. The collection is not limited to Marshall County, Iowa, but includes New England, North & South Carolina, Maryland, Virginia and other Midwest states.
The Gallentine family of Conrad donated over sixty notebooks of Helen Robinson Gallentine containing a wealth of information concerning her family lines as well as scrap books of newspaper clippings. The Genealogical Society library is definitely a “must see' and is open to the public each week Tuesday through Thursday from 10AM to 4PM as well as on the first and third Saturday of each month from 10 AM to 2 PM.
