Historical Society Operations
The Society is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors dedicated to preserving our history for future generations. The Society Board usually meets the third Thursday of each month at 4:00 p.m. in the Museum at 202 E. Church Street in Marshalltown. Our meetings are open to the public and those interested in attending are welcome to attend.
The Society acquires and operates its property and programs with donated funds and assets. The Board practices careful financial stewardship and operates efficiently with one part-time staff member and several volunteers. The Society values and receives the help of enthusiastic volunteers. Of course new volunteers are always needed and appreciated.
On behalf of the State of Iowa the Society coordinates summer tours for the Edel Blacksmith Shop in Haverhill, IA. The State provides an annual stipend to reimburse the Society for the expneses involved in the coordination and supervision of the tours at this treasurerd State of Iowa site.
